Privacy Policy

We care about your personal information

We are as deeply concerned about your privacy as we are about our own personal information on other websites. Our basic approach is one where we avoid capturing any information we don’t really need, and use it only in ways that support our goal of improving this website for customers and instructors.

Who we are

Our website address is: https://school.dance

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images and/or video to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. If your video includes other people besides yourself as instructors, you must acquire written permission from everyone who can be identified in the video. You can simplify this process with a professionally prepared legal waiver specifically indicating that the signatory approves the use of their appearance on media including video and photography.

Contact forms

If you fill out one of our contact forms, any personal information you provide and your IP address are saved to the website database and is transmitted by email to our administrators. A response, which may include the same information for your own records, is sent to the email address indicated in the message. This data may be retained indefinitely, since it may involve information we need to keep for legal or taxation purposes, but we periodically review and remove submissions that are no longer relevant.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are small files stored on your own computer or mobile device that simplify your ability to add additional comments in the future. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Instructional videos on this site are embedded from external hosting sources.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. School.dance is not responsible for the security of nor use of the tracking methods used in these external links, as these are third-party systems that we have no control over. As a user of this site, you acknowledge that any external content is not specifically part of the school.dance website.

Analytics

We track user activity in various ways, including Google Analytics, to help improve the effectiveness of this website. Your personal information, such as your name and Email address, may form part of this information.

Who we share your data with

We do not rent or sell analytics information in any form, but services that help us manage search engine optimization may be able to view this information in the process of their work on our behalf.

How long we retain your data

Your data is retained indefinitely unless you specifically ask us to remove it, as some of this information must be maintained to provide proper legal and taxation records.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive a file containing the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, taxation, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service such as Akismet.

Credit Card information

Credit card information is NOT stored on our website. We use Stripe and Paypal to process online payments. While we are not interested in your physical address, these payment gateways may require your billing address to protect themselves from fraudulent use of credit cards.
